Winter at Palmer Park

Besides offering an opportunity to get outside and breathe in the winter air , the park offers a safe and fun place for kids, and kids at heart, to enjoy sledding. The Palmer Park hill has been for many years, and will continue to be, a place for locals to gather and enjoy this winter thrill sport .

What does Palmer Park offer? Well certainly during the summer, it offers a place for people to gather together and play. Sprout City was implemented in 2017 in the middle of the park and has drawn many to its little houses. A brand new Super Slide was instal led in the park during 2019, drawing school-aged children to enjoy its thrills. The park also gained a new Gaga Ball pit during 2019 which is utilized by child and adult alike, Palmer Park offers a neutral space outdoors for those who want fresh ai r and fun, but what about the winter time? What can Palmer Park offer during the cold and dark winter months of Michigan?

We wanted to show our hospitality to all the people who are having fun in the park enjoying a nice snowy day…

Cocoa Snow Days

Recently the Recreation Department has begun supplement ing the sledding in the park with its “Cocoa Snow Days” program. When a snow day is called by the Port Huron Area School District, the Recreation Department opens its doors, literally, to provide a place to warm up. They also provide treats and cocoa (to help with the warming up) . When coordinator Melanie Chandler was asked why the program star ted she replied, “we wanted to show our hospitality to al l the people who are having fun in the park enjoying a nice snowy day…”

Just another way the Port Huron Recreation Department is adapting to provide for the community during the colder months of the year. With programs like these, Palmer Park can truly be a gathering place year round.
