The City of Port Huron Parks and Recreation is excited to announce we’ve been selected as a 2024 Project Play Champion by the Aspen Institute for our plans to redevelop 16th St. Park into a “free play park.”
This upgraded park will include...
-Renovated basketball court
-Scaled football field
-Soccer field
-Bike trail
-Challenge course and climber
-40-yard dash track
-Volleyball court
-Resurfaced pickleball courts
As our free play park, 16th St. Park is designed with everyone in mind, no matter their age or ability, ensuring sports and recreational opportunities are readily available to any child at any time. Free play at 16th St. Park will help youth to gain confidence through play and inclusion regardless if they play on a school sports team.
The estimated time of completion for the 16th St. Park renovations is this fall.
Organizations awarded this honor develop and foster healthier, youth sports communities by their commitment to innovative partnerships, quality coaching, exposure to new sports and increasing opportunities for underrepresented youth. We are proud to be chosen as a 2024 Project Play Champion by Aspen Institute out of 20,000 organizations nation-wide who are associated with the Project Play cohort.
