Beginning Thursday, Jan. 4 at 8 a.m. residents of the City of Port Huron may register for the Port Huron Recreation Department’s upcoming winter programming.

Nonresidents are welcome to start registering at 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5. Due to a partnership with Fort Gratiot, Burtchville, Clyde, Kimball and Port Huron Townships, their township residents receive the City of Port Huron’s resident rate. New, as of this season, Kimball Township is now a township partner.

Popular returning programs and events for winter include SledFest, Oldies Get Goodies, Puzzle Palooza, dance, karate, babysitting, skating, painting and more.

In addition to these returning programs, the Recreation Department is offering a new Intermediate to Skateboarding Clinic. With overwhelming demand for participants interested in our Intro to Skateboarding Clinic–which was new in the fall of 2023–the Recreation Department is excited to offer a more advanced skateboarding clinic for those who can confidently control the board and feel comfortable on the board. Participants, ages seven or older, will learn more advanced riding techniques and maneuvers with the instructor, Rich Pond, at the new Optimist Skatepark. Skateboards must be brought to class, but pads and helmets are available to borrow. City of Port Huron residents and our township partners are $20 per participant for this clinic.

Several of our programs this winter also focus around the theme of family bonding. In addition to our BYOG Sweetheart Dance family-friendly event, we are offering another family-friendly event, Family Game Night. Ages 5-12 are welcome to attend this program on March 15 with an adult of their choosing for a resident rate of $5. Additional (resident) participants are also welcome to play for an additional $2 per person. Those in search of family programs with children younger than 5 may attend our Mini and Me Bonding Courses: Toddler Time and Mini and Me Cookie Decorating.
