Summer 2020 at the REC Dept.

The Port Huron Recreation Department is excited to announce that many of our beloved programs are back this summer. Programs such as dance, karate, Walk Michigan, and art classes have returned, however, they have come back with certain adaptations.

One to two-mile walk routes will be provided online and participants will have one week to complete each one for Walk Michigan. This year's Walk Michigan t-shirts are still available to those who submit a picture each time they walk the route to receive credit for each walk.

In order to help keep our local children both active and creative this summer, Port Huron Recreation Department joined forces with many partners and launched REC On The Go. The program distributes bags of sports equipment, art supplies, and other fun at-home activities to families in the Blue Water Area. Families can post a picture or video of the children playing with the weekly activities and earn REC bucks— vouchers that can be used to purchase other fun REC prizes.

“ We hope that families continue to have fun this summer despite of the pandemic and we are ready to do everything in our power to provide just that.” _Nancy Winzer

Other partnerships with local businesses have made many other programs possible. Outdoor fitness programs are now available for children and adults at Pine Grove Park, Optimist Park, and Lakeside Beach thanks to CBA Fitness, PKSA Karate, and Happy Dog Yoga Studio. Alpine Cycles will also be available at different city parks throughout the summer to provide free maintenance services and ensure that everyone can ride a bicycle safely. Finally, Sadaat Hossain, co-owner of Raven Cafe in downtown Port Huron, will host an online cooking class for the department.
