Recreation Goes Virtual

Updated: Aug 31, 2022

The City of Port Huron like so many others, has been deeply affected by the novel Corona Virus. With everyone forced to remain indoors isolated, the Parks and Recreation Department has come up with some fun ways to keep kids and adults alike entertained and in high spirits. They’ve done this by moving to the virtual sphere!

These efforts kicked off with Sing Along with Miss Melanie, a Facebook Live event tailored towards toddlers and young children. Some sing along songs included: My Dog Named Rags, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Head Shoulders Knees and Toes. These live experiences are interactive and engaging. By offering stimulating programs online, the Recreation Department hopes to keep kids entertained and active while encouraging social distance.

The online events also included a trivia challenge, with participants giving their best guesses in real time! The City of Port Huron’s own, Nancy Winzer, hosted this fun and challenging game. The City of Port Huron Parks and Recreation Department page offered two trivia games in one day, the first aimed at a younger audience and the second, an adult one. Both were a hit , with scores tallied and winners announced later that day! Winners were gifted “REC Bucks” which can be used as credit for a select Recreation Department course.

The Recreation Department continues to offer various online programs, with full schedule and details listed on their Facebook page (@phrec) .

If you missed the last trivia game, here’s a little challenge for you. Below are a few questions from last week’s game! See i f you can guess the answer without looking at the key below.
